Why You Should Consider Outsourcing Your YouTube Video Editing

Have you decided to start a YouTube channel, only to become overwhelmed by the amount of work it takes to post on a regular basis? Have you tried to learn how to edit your own videos, only to find out that the process does not come naturally to you?

Whether you are an individual video creator, a podcaster looking to post video versions of your regular episodes, or a business looking to get into the world of online video, there are many potential benefits of hiring a video editor.

More and more people have begun to outsource the editing and post-production of their YouTube content, in order to reduce their own workload. Outsourcing YouTube video editing may sound like a difficult and expensive process, but it does not have to be — so long as you understand why you are doing it, and the steps you need to take, to get the results you want.

Reasons to Outsource Video Editing For Your YouTube Channel

    Outsourcing is less time-consuming

Depending on the needs of your project, the editing process can take multiple hours per minute of finished video content. The more time you have to spend on editing, the less time you have to do other work or just to relax and take time for yourself. This is a major reason to outsource video editing for YouTube.

More time to spend on producing quality video content

If you love to conceptualize and shoot video projects, but find editing to be a drag, consider hiring someone else to do the post-production work. This way, you’ll have extra time to put more effort into higher-quality youtube videos, or to make more of them.

    Editing yourself is not fun

Staring at your own face, and listening to your own voice for days, or weeks, is not enjoyable for anyone. Hiring someone else to cut down on the amount of time you have to spend staring at your own likeness on a screen is good for both your workload and your mental health.

The work is done by professionals

Learning how to edit your own work can be a difficult and time-consuming process. There are many different types of editing software, and an entire vocabulary of professional terms, like “eyeline match” and “J-cut,” which may be unfamiliar.

Professionals dedicate years of their lives to learning editing – either in formal programs, or by teaching themselves. Hiring an experienced editor saves you time and energy, and is more likely to yield high-quality results.

    Gain a new perspective

Bringing an outside editor onto your project gives you a new perspective, which may change the direction of your creative work, for the better.

What to look for in a YouTube video editor to outsource?

    Do they match your style?

If you have been editing your YouTube videos on your own before deciding to look for an editor, you will want to make sure that the transition between editors is as seamless as possible. If you have a signature look to the way your videos are edited, make sure that the person you are hiring is able to replicate it to your satisfaction.

Which editing software do they use for YouTube videos?

If you have a preference for which software your editor uses, make sure that they use that software. This can be critical if you want to make the final pass of edits before a video goes live.

    Can they meet your deadlines?

If you are working on a strict publishing schedule for your YouTube content, make sure that your editor will be able to keep up, and have your videos completed on schedule.

    Are their services reasonably priced?

Editing is incredibly time-consuming, but that doesn’t mean you need to spend your entire video budget. Find someone who charges a rate that is in line with how much you are willing to spend.

The average rate for a video editor can range anywhere from $75-150 depending on the person’s location, skill level, and experience.

How to outsource YouTube video editing?

If you have decided that you definitely want to outsource the editing of your YouTube video project, here are the steps to take toward doing it successfully.

    Find your video editor

Editors can be found in a few different ways.

Firstly, there are freelance editors on Fiverr. This is going to be the least expensive option, but also the most unreliable. The quality of services varies greatly and many of the site’s freelancers may not be willing to communicate with you, in order to know your deadlines and what you want out of the project.

Secondly, you can post a listing on a job search website like Upwork or WayUp and let editors apply for consideration. This could be a good option if you want to hire a single editor to work with you or your company on a part-time or full-time basis, for an extended period of time. However, the work required on your part to post the listing, sort through applications, and conduct interviews with applicants, may not be worth it for short-term projects.

Finally, you can reach out to a video production or post-production company that offers video editing services. These companies employ skilled YouTube editing teams, who work on a variety of video projects. This eliminates the need for you to sort through hundreds of freelancers to find the right match. There are many companies that offer these services, including Real Art Daily (RAD) Productions.

    Set up a communication method

Once you have found your editor it is necessary to set up a proper method of communication. You could schedule regular video conferences on Zoom or Skype, message each other on email, or use a service like Discord or Slack.

Give your editor the necessary information

Your editor needs to understand your video project, and your needs and goals, with regard to style and content. Here’s a list of information you should give the editor (before they start editing your footage):

    • Desired length of the final project
    • Demographic information of your intended audience
    • Your intended turnaround time
    • Your budget
    • Video format
    • Resolution
    • A description and/or examples of how you want the project to be edited

    Set up cloud storage

You’re going to need to transfer footage between yourself and your editor, and the best way to do so is using cloud storage, as it allows the project to be done remotely.

There are many different places to set up cloud storage. If you’re new to transferring large files, you can use whichever service your editor prefers. If you need to set up your own cloud for the project, some of the most popular options are Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, MediaFire, WeTransfer, and DropBox.

Final remarks on outsourcing video editing for youtube

Outsourcing YouTube video editing can seem intimidating, but it doesn’t need to be, as long as you follow these tips. No matter what you need to have edited, communication is the key to success. Make sure that you provide your editor with all the necessary information.

RADProd is proud to offer top-notch YouTube video editing under its post-production services at an affordable price. RADProd’s diverse team of editors will work closely with you to deliver the best possible video.

How Long Should Videos Be on Different Marketing Platforms?

When it comes to promoting your content on various social media sites – whether you’re advertising your business, marketing your film, or just posting personal content – it’s important to consider the attention span of your audience. Their interest in your video has to be instantly peaked, and retained throughout, or they’ll quickly scroll past.

So, what’s the optimal video length for different marketing or social media platforms? After all, we are much more prepared to commit to a minute-long video on Facebook than we are on Twitter or Instagram.

Luckily, expert video marketers on HubSpot have calculated the optimal video lengths on various platforms. With editing, animation, sound and visual effects, the best marketing video is one that engages the audience in a new and unexpected way, and timing is a crucial aspect of production.

Marketing Video Length To Keep Audience Attention

One of the most overruling pieces of data mentioned in the study is that viewers who watch the first 3 seconds of a video (across the internet) are more likely to finish it.

So, it’s important to prioritize the length of your videos on social media and make sure the audience is hooked from the first moment, regardless of whether or not they think they’re interested in your project or product.

Then, you have to make sure that every frame of your video is engaging and original. While this isn’t the easiest task, you’ll find that post-production editing and animation is key.

It’s as important with both short form videos and long form videos, to grab the audience’s interest and keep it throughout the story, with interesting visuals and important information. Even with platforms that only allow brief videos that provide the barest amount of information, every second should be used to provide eye-catching images and information, without worrying too much about fleshing out the video’s story.

Marketing Video Length for Different Social Platforms

    YouTube

The best length for a YouTube video is around 2 minutes, following both the overall rule that most popular online videos are 2 minutes or under, and the fact that YouTube has the most engagement on videos about 2 minutes long.

However, YouTube is the one platform where you should be uploading your in-depth or long form videos, such as full-length commercials or trailers, tutorials, personal testimonials and interviews.

Since YouTube allows specific searches, your targeted audience should be able to enjoy more thorough content. It’s also helpful to treat YouTube as a catalogue of all your promotional videos, including the full-length versions of the short clips you may post on other social media.

By doing this, and organizing these videos into playlists, your audience can find exactly what they’re looking for and new viewers can also find your videos related to other content they’re interested in.

    Facebook

With advertisements or promotional videos on Facebook, whether you post them on your page or on Facebook stories, the best performers are under 2 minutes. After this audience engagement tends to drop off sharply – in fact, 56% of all marketing videos published in the last year are under 2 minutes long.

In order to keep attention, the best performing long form videos on Facebook are immediately informative and entertaining in their visuals, and can be easily understood without sound. This is because Facebook, as well as most of the platforms mentioned here, autoplay their videos without sound at first.

If you are posting your video to Facebook stories, it should be kept to under 30 seconds or split up into multiple story segments. Most stories are made up of photos rather than videos, much like Instagram.

    Twitter

Twitter is designed for a short attention span and even the doubled 280 character limit is considered too long. Twitter has a 140 second (or 2 minutes and 20 seconds) video length limit, but the best way to utilize video marketing is to promote your longer videos with short “preview” Twitter videos.

Twitter’s #videooftheday averages 43 seconds, so a 45 second video is the ideal video length. Remember, it’s important to keep your audience engaged from the second your video begins. Like a tweet, you should provide quick and impactful updates, similar to a headline.

Twitter videos are like teaser trailers for a more detailed advertisement or promotion. The longer version should be kept on Instagram, YouTube, or Facebook, and linked from the tweet.

    Instagram

Instagram offers unique opportunities and challenges for video creators. It’s the largest social media site for short-form videos, but there is added pressure to keep audience engagement with impressive visuals.

Although the upper limit for videos on Instagram is 60 seconds, 30 seconds may be the ideal vido length. The videos that receive the most comments typically average about 26 seconds.

So, you’ll need to create a strategy for which information to include on your feed, and which to put on IGTV, Reels or your Story. You can preview a longer video on your feed, while saving these Reels on your account for your fans to visit anytime. These videos can be clips up to 30 seconds, but you can put multiple clips on Reels.

As for IGTV and live videos, these can be up to 60 minutes, since they are created to be more in-depth and are specifically targeted to your followers. You can also save a live video to IGTV after its runtime, for your audience to enjoy later.

You can also make several permanent stories on your account, which cycle through short photos or clips (that provide important and interesting content and are specifically titled), so that your audience can easily find the information they need.

    LinkedIn

LinkedIn is an essential platform for business to business (B2B) communication and marketing, and is the ideal site to share your more detailed and technical videos.

Like YouTube or Facebook, LinkedIn is more amenable to longer videos that reach your targeted audience or followers. Your videos on LinkedIn are also kept on a homepage (similar to YouTube) so that your followers can access previous videos.

As LinkedIn videos can cover more professional and in-depth topics, they’re great for instructional and informative videos. These videos can explain your products and services in more detail, your company history and information, and the progress of your current work. And since these videos are B2B targeted, you can create these videos for an audience that knows your industry and is more committed to the subject matter.

The length of your video depends on whether you are posting one of these “native” LinkedIn videos to your page, or posting a video ad. Your LinkedIn videos can only be up to 10 minutes long, but video ads can run up to 30 minutes. LinkedIn also recommends specific ad targeting, but be careful not to narrow your audience too much.

As with all social media sites, brevity and visual interest is helpful for attracting new viewers. LinkedIn found that attention wanes after 10 seconds, and videos under 30 seconds experienced a 200% lift in view completion rates.

So, even though you can make longer videos, you should still consider the short attention span of your audience. And, just like Facebook, these videos should be easily comprehensible, even without sound, with subtitles and graphics to keep them interested in learning more.

    Conclusion

In the data found by HubSpot, the ideal video length for each platform is defined by the average attention span, watch time, and engagement with video posts.

This is what makes post-production services like the ones we provide at Real Art Daily (RAD) Productions so helpful in making your videos a social media hit.

Simple Filmmaking Techniques To Add Suspense with a Low Budget

“Suspense is essentially an emotional process.” – Alfred Hitchcock

Thrillers are one of the oldest and most consistently popular film genres. From early shorts like The Lonedale Operator (1911) to classics like Notorious (1946) and recent entries like Parasite (2019), the successful thriller excels at creating suspense — meaning a state of uncertainty and anxiety over what is going to happen next.

Suspense isn’t exclusive to the thriller. Many types of films create suspense elements in order to secure and maintain their audience’s interest.

Even the jokes in comedies rely on the building and release of tension. Thus, it is critical for every budding filmmaker to learn basic suspense-building techniques and to become skilled at adding suspense with low-budget techniques.

There are many ways to add suspense elements in films. During the screenwriting phase you can strategically reveal information, address real life fears, and create realistic and relatable characters.

During production you can make use of off-screen space, low-key lighting and color theory. In post-production you can use color grading and rearrange shot order.

    Filmmaking Techniques To Create Suspense

Reveal Plot information to buildup of emotion

The difference between surprise and suspense is that surprise is a sudden revelation based on a late reveal, whereas suspense relies on the buildup of emotion. One of the simplest ways to build tension is to give the audience information.

Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope (1948) opens with Brandon (John Dall) and Phillip (Farley Granger) killing David (Dick Hogan) and putting his body in an antique chest.

They discuss their plan to host a dinner party with David’s body in the room to prove that they have committed the perfect crime. Giving the audience this information creates suspense as we don’t know if or when their guests could stumble upon the corpse and uncover the murder.

Addresses relevant fears or cultural anxieties of the audience

Either explicitly or metaphorically addressing real fears of your audience is a very popular way of building suspense.  This can activate the audience’s anxiety response even if they don’t register the film as referencing their fears.

A more explicit example of this is Jordan Peele’s Get Out (2017). It’s about racism, but the kind of white liberal racism that does not generally get portrayed in film. It addresses racism in people who think they couldn’t possibly have a racist bone in their body because they voted for Obama and posted a black square on Instagram for BLM.

Get Out explicitly portrays how white liberal ignorance and well-intentioned microaggressions mask more insidious and violent ideologies.

As the layers get pulled back from the Armitage family’s true nature, suspense is created as the audience wonders how much further the rabbit hole goes and hopes that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) can make it out alive.

A film that addresses audience anxieties subtextually is Steven Spielberg’s remake of War of the Worlds (2005). His version of the classic story explores anxieties of post-9/11 America.

Robbie (Justin Chatwin) impulsively tries to join the fight against the aliens before being mature enough to fully understand the consequences of his actions and he nearly gets himself killed. Robbie’s storyline parallels the many U.S. soldiers who enlisted right after the 9/11 attacks on a misguided impulse to “get back” at the enemy.

In one scene, Ray (Tom Cruise) finds himself covered in the ashes of people vaporized by the aliens. The invasion prompts both survival of the fittest individualism and the desire to work together to defeat the threat.

9/11 is never explicitly mentioned in the film, but the allusions to the attack and its aftermath still worked to tap into a visceral sense of fear for the audience, when 9/11 was still in the forefront of everyone’s minds. This can be done with any manner of topics, such as pregnancy and childbirth in Alien (1979) or communism in Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956). This creates engagement and suspense on a more subconscious level and can be done with no additional cost since the work is done during the screenplay stage and doesn’t necessitate extra time spent on production or post-production.

    Create realistic and relatable characters

Like Hitchcock said, suspense is an emotional reaction to the content of a film. If you create characters that the audience is able to sympathize with, you can get them to vicariously experience the character’s fears and anxieties.

The entire plot of Rosemary’s Baby (1968) relies on the audience’s sympathy for Rosemary’s (Mia Farrow’s) plight. This means that a lot of time is spent fleshing out her character and her relationships to the people around her.

In Rosemary’s Baby, we see Guy (John Cassavettes) gaslight, manipulate, and sexually abuse Rosemary. As the tension of this emotional abuse builds, it is also compounded by the extraordinary physical pain caused by her pregnancy. The audience watches helplessly as the few people who try to help her, mysteriously die or accidentally hand her right back to her abusers. This creates anxiety for the audience as Rosemary’s well-being deteriorates, securing and maintaining interest in how the story will play out.

    Use off-screen space

Off-screen space is space that is part of the scene but doesn’t appear on-screen. The way that the characters are framed and their emotions are portrayed, acts as a mediator between the thing happening off-screen and the audience viewing the film. The reaction of the characters informs the audience of how to react to what they aren’t able to see on screen. The action can remain completely hidden or have parts of it bleed over into the on-screen space.

In the beach attack scene from Jaws (1975), the shark is kept completely hidden from view. All that is shown is Alex being pulled underwater and his blood coloring part of the ocean red. Demonstrating the danger element that drives the rest of the story without revealing it entirely creates suspense and excitement for the film’s gradual reveal of its monster.

Low-key lighting to heighten the drama of the scene

Low-key lighting refers to high contrast lighting, with stark differences between dark and light areas of the frame. This lighting technique is strongly associated with film noir in addition to other kinds of dramas, thrillers, and horror films.

It instantly heightens the drama of the scene by adding intense contrast to the visuals. It can also be used to keep certain elements of the scene hidden in shadow or to isolate the subject in a seemingly endless void of darkness.

Low-key lighting can transform ordinary or even beautiful environments into creepy, off-putting spaces. In the opening of Mildred Pierce (1945), intense contrast, angular shadows, and flickering candlelight turn her California mansion into something out of a Halloween haunted house.

Use color grading to build excitement

This process is explained more in-depth in the color grading vs color correction article, but it essentially refers to stylizing the color of the image in post-production. Color grading can be used to alter contrast, color, saturation, detail, and black levels.

Like with low-key lighting, increasing the contrast and/or saturation of the image can help to build suspense and excitement. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) is a well-known example of a film that uses extremely high contrast and saturation to show the brutality and endlessness of its desert setting.

This process can also be used to tint the image a certain color. The green overtones in The Matrix (1999) create an unsettling atmosphere because it’s an unnatural color for ambient lighting. Going back to basic color theory, red symbolizes aggression and anger; blue represents detachment and loneliness; and purple communicates ambiguity. More typically cheerful colors like pink and yellow can also be used ironically as a contrast to the suspenseful things happening in the narrative.

Sequence of shot order in post-production

The order of shots in a sequence is an incredibly important part of suspense editing, as is demonstrated by how the dinosaurs are revealed in Jurassic Park (1993). Before a single dinosaur appears on-screen, the camera shows the expressions of Alan (Sam Neill) and Ellie (Laura Dern) as they see their first dinosaur.

Keeping the audience in the dark about what the character is reacting to creates a short build and release of tension. In this case it also creates a direct link between how the characters feel about seeing the dinosaurs for the first time and how the audience reacts to it. This helps forge an emotional connection between the viewer and the characters which increases the effectiveness of later sequences like the T-Rex and velociraptor attacks. When the audience grows attached to the characters it becomes easier for the filmmaker to make the audience fear for their safety.

Last few talks about creating suspense in low budget film

There are many different ways to build tension in your film, and you don’t need to break the bank to keep your audience on the edge of their seat. Adding suspense with a low-budget is both possible and practical.

Real Art Daily (RAD) Productions can be part of that creation. RADProd’s post-production service team is here to help you with many of the processes discussed here, including but not limited to color grading and video editing.

What are the Easiest Video Editing Softwares for Beginners?

Whether you are a content creator producing videos for your private business or a newcomer wanting to make videos for your social media account, there are many types of video editing software out there on the world wide web these days.

For newcomers, however, the software available can be a bit intimidating if you do not know what you want or need. The question newcomers normally ask themselves is – what is the easiest video editing software for beginners to learn, and how much does the software cost?

In this article, we will discuss some highly recommended video editing softwares that are considered beginner-friendly.

Top 10 Video Editing Softwares for Beginners

    Adobe Premiere

The Adobe Premiere apps from the Adobe Creative Cloud are some of the more well known software for video editors, and for good reason. Adobe Premiere has been a leader in the video editing industry for many years now, being a popular choice among professional video editors for its user-friendly interface. This interface also makes these apps the perfect choice for beginners.

However, the apps may not always work for everyone, given that many Adobe programs have a reputation for being too complex for everyday users.

    • Adobe Premiere Elements is intentionally targeted at a beginner level, being a pared-down version of Premiere Pro. A major selling point for Elements is its Guided Edits feature, providing walkthroughs that cater to the user’s skill level as they become more proficient.

While Elements lags behind other video editing software in terms of speed, 3D editing, multicam, and other advanced features, it is still considered a great beginner’s choice based on its comprehensive suite of effects and guidance based on user level.
    • Adobe Premiere Rush is intended to be a cross-platform video editing software, meaning it can work on both a desktop and mobile device, making it a very versatile app. While Rush has fewer features, it comes with tremendous benefits. Unlike Elements, Rush’s software comes with a video recorder, allowing users to shoot directly from the app.

The video editor also has a huge focus on sharing, which means sending the finished product to your chosen platform is relatively easy. The only drawback is that it can only export videos as MP4 files, and this lack of export options can be a turnoff to some people.
    • Adobe Premiere Pro is perhaps the most complete video editing software on the market. Offering 360 VR and 4k support, Premiere Pro also provides the Lumetri Color editing tool, which has a variety of color adjustment and manipulation options on par with Adobe Photoshop.

Allowing easy integration with other Adobe products in its unmatched suite, Premiere Pro is one of the most preferred choices for experts and novices alike.

All three programs are available on Windows and Mac; Premiere Pro also being available on iOS, and Rush also being available on both iOS and Android.

The pricing for these apps, however, tend to be very costly. The annual plan for all apps within the Adobe Creative Cloud, which includes Premiere Pro and Rush, is priced at roughly $52.99 per month. Premiere Pro on its own is roughly $19.99 per month; Rush comes at a price of roughly $9.99 per month; and Elements comes at a one-time fee of $99.99, to which Adobe extends a 30-day money-back guarantee.

    DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve is the video editing software of choice for many professional video editors, combining professional 8k editing, color correction, visual effects, and audio post-production in a single video editing tool.

This video editing software allows for both online and offline editing, and its high performance playback engine saves time on editing, even for processor-intensive file formats like H.264 and RAW. DaVinci also offers custom timeline settings, adjustment clips, facial recognition, speed warp retiming, image stabilization, audio scrubbing, and more.

DaVinci Resolve is free on Windows, Mac, and Linux, but there is also a full Studio version available at $269.

    Apple iMovie

iMovie is one of the few free video editors on the market, and it is a great tool for anyone who wants a quick and simple way to edit videos. It should be noted that iMovie is limited in its features and formats, but its drag-and-drop interface includes powerful video editing tools that make it easy to apply titles, music, special effects, and green screen to videos.

As a free app exclusive to the Mac, it is capable of directly integrating with other Apple products like iTunes and GarageBand for easy implementation of custom tracks and sounds.

    Lightworks

Lightworks is another free video editing app, and is one of the best overall video editing softwares for beginners. It is also the perfect platform for camera operators, editors, sound engineers, and bloggers. It has a simple, intuitive, and easy-to-use interface that includes detailed tutorials that help beginners create professional-grade videos in HD and SD formats.

It allows for easy sharing of videos with fast exports to social media platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, and Instagram. Despite a somewhat hard-to-understand editor management system, Lightworks is still the perfect option for small or no-budget projects.

While free on the Windows, Mac, and Linux, there is a Pro version of Lightworks that has a cost of $24.99 per month.

    Shotcut

Originally designed for Linux, Shotcut is now an open-source, cross-platform video editor also made available on Windows and Mac. This video editing software is capable of supporting formats like FFmpeg, 4k, ProRes, DNxHD, and more.

Its multi-format timeline allows users to mix and match resolutions and frame rates within a project. It also provides extensive options in audio editing, making it ideal for sound editors.

While some may find its interface to be a bit strange, given that it was originally meant for Linux users, Shotcut is still a top-notch video editor that is free of charge.

    Corel VideoStudio

Corel VideoStudio is another video editor that requires payment, but makes up for it by offering a 30-day free trial, giving users plenty of time to try its features before making a final decision.

The software is packed with features like stop motion animation, color and lens correction, green screen, motion tracking, 360-degree VR video support, and many more.

One of its disadvantages, unfortunately, is its speed which lags behind some of the faster video editing software on this list. There is also a bit of a learning curve for beginners who are just getting started with the program.

As for cost, Corel VideoStudio comes at a price of roughly $51.99; $54.99 if you are getting Corel VideoStudio Pro.

    Hitfilm Express

Hitfilm Express is a bit more advanced for a beginner-level video editing software, but it is worth enduring the learning curve as it is one of the best all-in-one free video editors on the market.

As a software used to produce Hollywood-level film editing, Hitfilm Express provides professional-grade video editing with access to an enormous array of tools at the user’s disposal.

It also provides intuitive and flexible export options for your finished videos. Unfortunately, export speed is lower than one would expect, and some of the software’s popular features need to be purchased in order to access them.

While the standard version is free on both Windows and Mac, Hitfilm Express Pro is available at a cost of roughly $349.

    VSDC

VSDC can be used to create a video of any length or complexity. Its video editing software is available as a Windows exclusive with both a free and paid version.

Although lacking in features, the free version still retains VSDC’s full video editing suite, which includes a mask tool and chroma key functionality for green-screen effects.

The full Pro version, starting at $19.99, expands on its array of tools, featuring video stabilization, robust post-production effects, slideshow/presentation capabilities, 3D diagram templates, and direct social media publishing.

    Filmora

Filmora from Wondershare is a decent video editing software app for beginners, and is about as multifaceted as they come. The video editor is intuitive and easy to use, and comes with a selection of filters, overlays, motion elements, transitions, titles, and even some royalty free music.

There are also other apps that coincide with the main software, such as FilmoraGo, used for mobile editing, and Filmora Scrn, which applies to screen recording and editing.

Beginners to video editing will appreciate Filmora’s “Easy Mode,” which allows users to create fun, polished edits by simply dragging and dropping clips, choosing a theme, and selecting music.

Filmora is currently available on Windows 10, 8, and 7, as well as Mac. The cost starts at either $59.99 for a lifetime license or $39.99 for a year. There is a free version that is available, however, all videos made in the free version will have a brand watermark on them.

    Blender

Blender is a free, open-source 3D animation suite that includes a functional video editing software that will meet the needs of most users. Thanks to its cross-platform characteristic, open-source code, availability, and functionality, Blender is very popular among both professional 3D modelers and beginners alike.

Video editing is not its main function, but it is a powerful tool. Its flexible video editor is an excellent option for advanced projects that may involve 3D animation, and it is capable of tackling complex edits like video masking.

Blender is free on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

    Conclusion

There are many options for video editing software that beginning video editors can choose from, all with their own quirks. Even with all the information gathered in this article, it is ultimately up to you, the reader, who is likely just getting into video editing, to decide which is the best software for your needs, based on what you are comfortable with and have the budget for.

Premiering on YouTube July 8, 2021

LOS ANGELES (July 7, 2021) – With world travel on pause during the global pandemic, creators-stars Georginna Feyst and Natalia Bortolotti, have retooled and will re-release Season 1 of their award-winning original mockumentary web series, AMERICANS ABROAD, on YouTube beginning July 8th.

The 6-episode reissue offers bonus content, fresh animation sequences, and subtitles that cater to their expanded foreign language audience with Spanish and Italian subtitles and the deaf and hearing impaired with English subtitles. The first 3 revised episodes will roll-out on July 8th, followed by the remaining episodes on July 22nd.

AMERICANS ABROAD follows the exploits of an inept travel show Host (Feyst) and her unpaid Intern (Bortolotti), as they attempt to travel the globe without a budget. Fueled by the host’s endearing cluelessness on-camera and her intern’s sarcastic and subjective commentary off-camera, the traveling duo find themselves caught-up in misunderstandings about travel, culture, and life itself.

In 2020, Feyst and Bortolotti hit the International Film Festival circuit with AMERICANS ABROAD, winning “Best Web Series” at Five Continents International Film Festival in Venezuela and Barcelona Planet Film Festival. In addition, the series earned Finalist status at NY International Film Awards and Oniros Film Awards, Semi-Finalist standing at Web Series Festival Global in Los Angeles, and official selections at 18 festivals.

Feyst shares, “During the global pandemic, we weren’t able to travel or shoot. So, we decided to head back to the video editing studio and animation studio to bring something new to our fans.”

Feyst and Bortolotti conceived the original idea while on a trip to Italy, and went on to co-write and produce the project under the Real Art Daily (RAD) Productions company banner. Led by Feyst, RAD seeks to create and tell meaningful stories that entertain, inform and awaken. RAD is a diverse Los Angeles-based company, determined to share alternative storylines that are often neglected by mainstream media which promote female empowerment, LGBTQIA+, and disabled representation.

RAD is currently in-development on several projects, including the dramatic feature film Georgie, the live action and 3D animation crossover short film Yarnia, a 2D animated short film that will be packaged with a children’s book, and the new existentialist theater production No Entry.

Before heading into the artistic arena, Feyst had a successful corporate IT career in Detroit, Michigan. She turned to the arts, studying music in Detroit at Wayne State University and San Jose State University before heading to Foothill Theatre Arts Conservatory on the San Francisco Bay peninsula. She also studied consciousness and spiritual thought and healing for over 10 years and was part of the grass roots new-age movement in Michigan in the 1990’s. Since then, she has emerged as a rising actress on stage, starring in the plays Roswell and No Exit; and starring in indie films Yarnia, Georgie and S is for Psycho, which earned her an award when it screened at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco.

Bortolotti is a Grammy-nominated songwriter, composer, music producer and sound designer. Her recent credits include sound design on Dua Lipa’s Grammy-winning album, “Future Nostalgia,” as well as the Grammy-nominated Justin Bieber ft. Quavo single, “Intentions.” Natalia has a Bachelor of Music in Songwriting and Master of Arts in Music Business from Berklee College of Music. She has toured the world with many chart-topping artists, including Maroon 5 and Gwen Stefani.

How is Animation Used in Marketing: An Effective Approach for Marketing

Just like plenty of businesses in the world, animation used in marketing has proven to be a convenient and cost-effective way for increasing brand awareness. Animation is amongst one of the most crucial content marketing strategies and puts forward our brand’s image in a creative way.

Not only is it easier to understand, but has also been helpful in boosting the conversion rates of viewers to customers, as well. Creating an animation explainer video as marketing content provides the audience with the right dose of entertainment and education.

In this article, we will look at:
    – Why should we use animation for marketing? What can brands use animation for?
    – What Can Animation Do For Brands?
    – How will animation marketing increase sales and conversions?
    – Why Animated Video is the Best Strategy for Your Social Media Marketing?
    – Cost-Effectiveness and its Benefit in Animation Marketing Content Production

Why should we use animation for marketing? What can brands use animation for?

Smart marketers know the importance of using animation for marketing for increasing their brand awareness, marketing sales, and conversions., and major corporations and businesses worldwide use 2D explainer videos to increase their product awareness and also help explain complex ideas quickly.

    Product Awareness

Animation explainer videos help cement a brand or a company and its services in a customer’s mind. When a company uses animation for promotion or marketing, they establish their customer’s recall for their brand.

    Explain Complex Ideas

Brands use various ways to promote the services and products they have to offer, and businesses have resorted to using animation for attracting clients to their brand. Animation used in marketing helps brands convey the message of their company to explain complex concepts in a simpler and easier way.

Animation marketing is amongst the most versatile advertising styles and is used in numerous ways by brands and organizations globally. Brands can use animation as an effective marketing strategy. Companies that have been using animation for marketing  have seen exponential growth in brand awareness.

What Can Animation Do For Brands?

Brands use animation marketing as an effective way of connecting with the audience on a more personal level and brands use animation to exhibit their perspectives and ideas to their audience.

Animation marketing strategies help ideas remain buried in the minds of their customers. A recent survey showed 91% of consumers reward brands for their individuality and 62% of them are more likely to purchase from a brand that boldly expresses its uniqueness.

TED-Ed videos have more than 9.5 million YouTube subscribers. And their channel is amongst the most popular educational channels on YouTube because they simplify complex ideas for their audience with the use of their fascinating, and intriguing animation.

How will animation marketing increase sales and conversions?

Animation helps cement your brand in customer minds

The best kinds of explainer videos are merely 30-90 seconds long. Explainer videos help generate a strong bond between the brand and the viewer. Animation helps cement your brand in customer minds in such a short time.

Animation videos are easy to understand and help get messages across.

While a brand is much more than colors, fonts, and slogans, those elements can help your customers make associations with your company. Animations with these elements of your brand further establish your customer’s recall of your company. Animations rationalize compound ideas in a convenient way that is easier for the audience to grasp and understand.

    Users like videos!

Users are less likely to leave a website if there is video content on the homepage or at the About Us page. According to statistics, approximately 64% of website users are more likely to purchase a company’s product after viewing their explainer video.

If a business uses animation to explain its benefits, services, and products, website users are more likely to watch the video than spend their time reading content on the website. Use animation video explainer videos as a form of increasing your website and social media platforms’ insights, traffic, and content interaction.

Why Animated Video is the Best Strategy for Your Social Media Marketing?

Users don’t pay much attention to an article or a video on the internet if it is unnecessarily long and draggy. An animated marketing video for business is used by businesses to connect with their audiences on an emotional level because animation is associated with feelings of childhood and nostalgia.

With the help of animation marketing, a concept, idea, proposition, or plan can be brought to reality. Animation videos possess the magic to intrigue their viewers, and they can perfectly portray the different ways processes and mechanisms operate. Uploading and promoting our animated marketing video for business has proven to be a substantially impactful social media marketing strategy.

Content Production Cost-Effectiveness & its Benefit in Animation Marketing

Since the rapid change in climate and the disruption of environments, organizations and brands globally have resorted to different ways to run their business that might help the environment in one way or another. Animation marketing is amongst the most eco-friendly and cost-effective ways of increasing brand awareness.

    Eco-friendly

Traditional video filming might damage the surrounding environment due to light or sound pollution. Some of the other environmental issues might be due to construction sets, and vegetation trampling too. A 15s-animation marketing video is consecutively better than a traditional method of video production that might involve harm to the environment, animals, or the climate.

    Cost-Effective

Would you hire actors, pay the fees for extra production and post-production equipment,, and pay staff to schedule shooting, scout locations, and arrange props all for a social media advertising video? Or would you rather have a catchy, and detailed animated marketing video hassle-free for your campaigns?

In shooting live videos, the decisions made prior to the shooting are final and it will cost a lot of money to change anything in the live-action videos. With animated marketing videos, even the tiniest of details can be edited last-minute, and the most significant things can be edited or tweaked such as character details, storyline, or background settings, and with minimal impact on the scope and budget of the project.

In short, animated marketing videos are much cheaper and more cost-effective to produce than live-action marketing videos.

    Takeaway

As technology develops, human beings have access to different methods of promoting their businesses. Animation marketing video production for advertisements became more popular with the emerging trends of technology.

8 Best 2D Animation Commercial Ads and Why Do They Stand Out?

Video marketing has become a crucial part of advertising for companies over the years, and 2D animation commercial ads have become extremely popular with T.V. audiences having a higher engagement rate of 30% more than traditional video advertisements.

This unique and engaging way of storytelling to reach all types of audiences is an excellent strategy. That’s why animation is important for businesses today. It takes away from the somewhat boring and traditional to a much more enjoyable experience for potential customers in an environment that live-action could not obtain.

What Exactly is an Animated Commercial Ad?

Animated ads are generally 1-3 minute ads that use video and animation to create motion graphics for potential consumers. These ads can be a Gif, HTML, or a banner. You can see these types of ads on commercial television, interactive banner ads as well as digital billboards as well as social media platforms. With the list we have compiled for you for today, we will get to see 8 best 2d animated ad examples.

8 Best 2D Animated Commercial Ads

    1. Red Bull

Let’s start us off with a classic Red Bull cartoon commercial that follows a man who is unfortunately stuck in traffic, what will he do? Drink a RedBull of course to grow wings and fly over all the traffic. These over top 2d animated ads are a household name around the world for many. The use of 2D animation here is flawless and easy to follow in a situation we all wish would happen to us during rush hour.

    2. Nespresso on Ice

This 30-second 2017 animated advertisement is one of the best ads to ever come from the 2d animated video ads realm. Of all the commercials we are going to review, this one has to be one of the most beautiful ones to date.

It has a lovely backdrop of a summer in Italy showcasing that even though it’s animated, the use of colors is so vibrant enough that you feel you’re enjoying a nice morning Nespresso in Italy. This ad ended up being extremely successful for the company, especially since for this one they did not have to use George Clooney!

    3. Red Bull

Red Bull’s 2d animation advertising videos are so engraved in our society that we are sure you have already thought in your head that “Red Bull gives you wings”. There are many impressive animations with Red Bull. They truly are the experts when it comes to any type of animated tv commercials. They have almost become that video animated brand that makes hit after hit.

In today’s choice, we went with a funny play with a Zebra drinking Red Bull at a watering hole with crocodiles roaming the waters. All of their ads are done in a way where it looks like someone drew the characters with a crayon and used stop motion. This makes the animation seem so simplistic in how it’s made, but it still shows a powerful message on how this product could give you the strength to take on your everyday life.

    4. Gatorade

This 2016 animated advertising videos for Gatorade called, “The Boy who Learned to Fly” takes you on a longer 7-minute journey with the famous sprinter Usain Bolt from childhood all the way up to his multiple Olympic runs.

This animated commercial had a whopping 14 million views and counting. The attention to detail from him being a kid running to class because he was late to becoming multiple Olympic gold medalists is inspiring itself, as well as with the natural story and animation showcase.

Take a look at the behind the scenes interview, with artwork and style frame examples, shows just how much animation work had to be put into making this incredible ad. The team worked with Usain Bolt in person to understand his journey to the athlete he is today. The storyboard is definitely worth taking a look at as they really put the audience in the world-class sprinter’s shoes.

    5.Toyota

Toyotas’ 2020 animated commercial called “Stories of Better”, showcases an animated video as a stop motion masterpiece.  This ad shows how Toyotas process building cars up from scratch in a fun and interesting way. By showing such processes, it shows the world the time and effort Toyota put in their products. And this is why it makes this one of the best-animated ads of 2020.

Stop motion is a difficult task where someone has to be creative as well as very patient. Being precise with character pre and post-production is essential for any company that wants to make an excellent stop motion animated video and see the success that Toyota had.

    6. McDonald’s

Mcdonald’s 2d animated commercial spectacularly showcases how a simple 2d ad can help your business in a big way. The explainer video shows how the Mcdonald’s app works and makes it simple and easy to understand. Furthermore, it also shows how a corporate giant like McDonald’s is using 2d animation to its advantage. In short, using animation to show or explain ideas is certainly the way of the future.

    7. American Express

American Express’ “Career Campaign” in 2016 uses 2d animation to persuade viewers into making a career out of American Express in a very intelligent way that makes even me want to consider working there. This 2d animated commercial is flawless with easy to understand narration as well as fun and beautiful animation that showcases the American Express culture.

    8. Lyft

The 2016 2d animation advert called “Life is Better When you Share a Ride” uses animation to tell a story of a potentially real circumstance of someone becoming a Lyft driver. With 8 million Youtube views you cannot help but not cheer for the protagonist. The amount of detail put into this animated Chicago makes you feel like you are there and, thus, proves that if you have a strong story vision in your animation, you will find success.

    Conclusion

2d animation commercial ads have really made its mark in the 21st century and will play a major role this year as the Coronavirus rages on not allowing close contact for studios. The major theme you see with these ads is something that’s beautiful to look at and tells an interesting easy to understand story that sticks with audiences. Use this best 8 as a benchmark for your company as it’s becoming seriously important to have these 2d animated ads in your company’s portfolio moving forward!

Things You Should Know Before Hiring a Video Editing Company

Do you need help with the post-production process? Considering to hire a video editing company to work with you?

Editing is a crucial part of the filmmaking/video making process and can make or break the project. Without editing, a video project is only multiple takes of lengthy raw footage out of order. Because video editing is such an important part of the process, it is pertinent that the company or freelancer hired to edit your project is the right one. It can be very intimidating trying to choose/hire which video editor company to go with.

Video editing is where raw footage is put together cohesively. This process can be outsourced to edit your video. The cost can range from $20-$200/hour and the time frame is dependent on many things including the length of the project, but can take weeks to months to complete. It is important to have your creative vision met by your editor through communication, organization, and passion on both ends.

Here we will go into depth on things to consider hiring a video editing company:

What do video editors of a company do?

the raw footage from the project and use a script or outline to piece and edit each scene together. They can add animations, logos, graphics, and CGI.

Then the video is meticulously edited and all desired graphics added, the video will go into picture lock. Picture lock is where every edit of the video is in its desired final form.

After the picture is locked, the editor will move onto the next steps. This may include audio mixing, ADR, sound effects, color correction, image stabilization, and music. After everything is approved, the project is complete!

What preparation work is needed before hiring a video editor company?

There are many things that need to be prepared before hiring a video editor. Most importantly, you should have a clear vision for your project and what you are attempting to get across with it.

Important things to think about are: the feelings, colors, intention, and the emotions you want to evoke from the audience. Once you have answers to these questions, you will be able to share them with your video editor

It is also important to have a script or an outline that you could share with them. Your maximum budget and your timeline for the start and finish of your project need to be known.

    Can video post-production be outsourced?

Absolutely! After you film everything you may outsource your project to whichever freelancer or company you decide to go with!

Thanks to digital advances, outsourcing video editing has been more simple than ever. You can now outsource the process out of house to a video editing service company located literally anywhere!

All that is needed is to have a way to transfer and download your raw footage onto the editor’s computer. You can transfer these files via dropbox, hightail, wetransfer, google drive, and many other ways. Whether you’re transferring a city away, or half the way around the world, it should be just as simple!

How much does it cost to hire a video editing company?

The cost of a video editor varies depending on many things such as your location, type of project, length of project, and the amount of animation/graphics/CGI you want.

Cost is also dependent on the experience of the editor/editing company and can range from roughly $20/hour up to $130/hour for freelance video editors and $75/hour-$200/hour for video editing companies.

There is a difference in cost between freelancers and companies because of the crucial differences in what they bring to the table.

What is the difference between hiring a video editing company vs. a freelancer?

There are pros and cons to both companies and freelancers. Often times, freelancers are a lot more budget-friendly than hiring a company. This can really come in handy when your budget is tighter. However, the majority of sites where you can hire freelancers have fees that go with them, making them not as inexpensive as it might seem.

Although freelancers may end up being cheaper, you will often get higher quality work and more timely delivery from companies. Also, companies have more people with a variety of skills, the security of several people in case of sickness or personal emergencies, and the ability to finish editing projects in a more timely manner due to streamlined processes.

Another important factor is that companies normally have better protection of your data. Companies are more likely to implement a system of securing and backing up your data.

Lastly, companies are more likely to have software and equipment that are industry standard.

What to expect from a video editor company?

    Communication and Creativity

Like anyone you hire, it is very important for you and your video editor to have good communication with each other. With that communication, your vision, thoughts, feelings, and desires about your project should be expressed and understood by your video editing company to provide the best project outcome. Your video editor should share your vision for the project and be excited to work on it in a creative manner!

Without a video editor that shares the creative image with you, there would not be great edits that really make a film, such as: Napoleon Dynamite

video editing of napoleon dynamite and pedro reunited

Without its harsh cuts, awkward bits in complete silence, and long holds before the cut, it would not have felt like the relatable, awkward, unique Napoleon style that we know today. Thanks to communication of the vision!

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Midnight Cowboy is known for its inter cutting, skill with a mixture of color and black & white, and fades. This Oscar-winner would not have been created without the unique editing!

    Industry Standard Software

When hiring someone, it is important that the software they will be using to edit your project is industry standard.

There are many editing software out there, but some of the best include: Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Avid, DaVinci Resolve, and Sony Vegas.

Having an industry standard software is important when it comes to the quality, and ability of the editing. It is also important when it comes to the way each software saves files and transports them.

Industry standard software will be more common and easy to transport and open files on various machines.

    Someone Open and Reliable

You should expect a video editor who is open and responsive to make edits and changes different from the initial edit they provide you.

Without someone open, you are likely to end up with a project that you are not completely happy with. When an editor is open, they will be happy to hear your constructive feedback and take that direction that was provided by you.

You should be satisfied with the final videos, and you need a video editor responsible and responsive enough to make that happen!

    Good Time Management

It is also important that your video editing company gets back to you in a timely manner and provides efficient workflow.

Editing is a process and time should be taken with it, however, it should not be an extremely slow process that hinders your expected release date and time frame that you set up at the beginning of the agreement.

    Skills and Experience

It is important when looking to hire a video editing service that they have skills and experience in what you are looking for!

A freelancer or company that is talented in the niche you are looking for in your video/film is important for a professional, creative, and unique outcome.

For example, if your project is going to need animation, then you will want to hire a company that has skills and experience with animation specifically.

You can see experience and skills in video editing services mostly through demo reels; but looking at other projects they have worked on is also important!

How long does video editing take?

That depends! Video editing time is all dependent on graphics, color, sound, and shots provided. Many other things go into play with video editing time too, but the biggest one is budget.

A blockbuster film with millions of dollars in budget is able to have many more resources. Therefore, they would take a much shorter time to edit than an indie film with a smaller budget and limited resources.

There is no hard and fast rule on how long editing takes because it is dependent on so many things. However, a good rule of thumb is about 9 months for a feature film. For a short film, it can take weeks or months depending on the length of the short.

    Conclusion

A lot of things go into editing and finding the right film editor for you. Here at Real Art Daily (RAD) Productions, we have the passion, creativity, and reliability to be the right video editors for you!

Color Correction vs Color Grading: What Makes Them Different?

If you’re not entirely sure what color grading consists of, we here at Real Art Daily (RAD) Productions will let you in on the secret.

Color grading is a core part of the post-production process. Examples of color grading include: increasing or decreasing image saturation levels, altering a video image to be in sepia or black and white, adjusting your white balance, and beyond.

Color grading is important for a multitude of reasons but, ultimately, the goal is to ensure that your project has a level of visual consistency that the audience will be able to grasp, so that your audience will remain engaged and be able to fully experience the intended story.

In this article, we will cover some of the most important things in color grading: the difference between color grading and color correction, when color grading work should begin, and what the best type of color grading software is.

What is the difference between color grading and color correction?

While color correction and color grading are similar, they are not the same thing. Generally, color correction aims to fix mistakes and create consistency, while color grading aims to take a stylistic approach to the content. In order to gain a better understanding, Let’s break down the specifics of each.

      What is Color Correction?

Color correction, as implied by the name, ultimately aims to correct the colors to how they would be seen by the human eye in the real world. This is done by working to establish a type of visual consistency, which is often assisted by establishing true color levels.

For a more specific application, we can say that color correction can assist in making two scenes look like they were filmed on the same day in the same weather pattern, when in reality, one day was sunny and one was overcast. It can be looked at as a type of continuity management as ensuring consistency in the scenes will let the audience know that all takes in a scene are taking place at the same time and all scenes meant to take place at the same time are doing so.

Color correction can be further broken down into primary and secondary  correction. Primary color correction is focused on correcting the basic color in the overall image. Basic color can be looked at as all colors in a photo. For example, if you were editing a photograph and you wanted the photo to change from color to black and white, you would be altering the basic color.

Secondary color correction is focused on more specific parts of the image, such as a vase being a different shade than it was previously. Secondary color correction allows that specific thing to be corrected while maintaining the basic color you adjusted in primary color correction.

What attributes are corrected in the color correction process?

      Black Levels

Black levels, or a video black level, are defined as the “level of brightness at the darkest part of visual image.” This means that the black areas, or the darkest areas of the footage, are true to the realistic color. If this is not calibrated appropriately, colors could show as different colors, such as black showing up as dark. If a black level is a bit off, the audience may not be able to tell the difference between the black in the scene and the black bars shown at the bottom and top of the screen.

      White Balance

Unlike black levels, white balance is something that applies to not just white but each color in your project. As implied by the name, white balance aims to balance the temperature of the color in your footage. As with most things adjusted in this step, correcting the white balance is done to ensure that things look more natural.

      Primary Colors

Primary colors are heavily focused on during the color correction process as everything is made up of these core colors. There are two main sets of primary colors: RYB and CYMK – red, yellow, and blue, and cyan, magenta, and yellow respectively. Ensuring that primary colors are accurate ensures that each and every color in a project is accurate.

      Color Saturation

Similarly to primary colors, color saturation is focused on ensuring that colors are accurate to the desire of the filmmaker. For a movie that is aiming to be realistic, the focus on color saturation means making sure colors are not over or under saturated. For a movie that is trying to set a specific tone, this may mean heavily saturating the colors beyond things seen in nature.

      Skin Tones

On a more specific note, skin tones are something that are heavily focused on in the color correction process. If a skin tone is not accurate, it will make the movie feel slightly off and your audience may begin to doubt your project. Ensuring that skin tones are accurate will build trust with the audience and allow them to be drawn into the story.

      What is Color Grading?

While color correction provides the process of correcting the color so it looks accurately like the real world, color grading aims to set the mood of the piece and will assist in the storytelling. Color grading is not an absolute requirement, yet an important step to take when setting your process of video production apart from others.

Colour grading is the unsung hero of content creation.”

Color grading often works with more specific goals than color correction, such as creating a specific ambiance or invoking specific emotions from the audience. For example, a movie shot in black and white may be received much differently if shown in color.

Examples of movies that heavily use color grading to their advantage include: The Martian, Mad Max and The Matrix. Each of these films relies on a specific use of color to set the tone, ambiance, and overall emotion of the film.

      Importance of color grading

While there are many specific details to consider when thinking about the importance of color grading, it is easier to look at the larger picture.

Color grading is important because it is the core of your video content. Without color grading, your colors will look off. When your color is off, your audience begins to doubt your work, even without realizing it. Once your audience begins to doubt your work, it will turn into a snowball effect and the integrity of your project may not hold up.

To avoid this from happening, it is key to follow the core concepts we have laid out in this article.

When should color grading work begin?

Like many other parts of post-production, color grading should begin in pre-production. In pre-production, the story is fleshed out. This is where we determine our plot, our characters, and the integral mood of the project. Going back to the notes that were created in pre-production will assist greatly in the color grading process.

We can look at color grading in two types of productions: live-action production and animation. In live-action production, the color theme can either be determined before or after production begins. For animation, however, the color theme must be determined prior to production. As for the decision-makers of the color grading process, color grading decisions are heavily influenced by the director of the project and the director of photography (DP).

What type of software is used in color grading work?

Our video editors use color grading software for video, which includes color grading, color correction, video coloring, color balance and generally any and all types of color work. While the bulk of video editing work may be done in a video editing software such as Final Cut Pro or Premiere Pro, often there is need for a separate color tool such as Academy Color Encoding System or Davinci Resolve.

Academy Color Encoding System (ACES) is a type of color grading workflow that many production companies are beginning to follow. Directly from the ACES website, it says it is a “global standard for managing color workflows.” ACES works in a few different ways. It “standardizes and simplifies color management by maintaining the color fidelity of your production at the highest level throughout production, post production, and archiving.”

In addition to being an incredible resource, ACES is free and open source, so not only is it accessible to all, they are continuously improving on it’s base state to improve its efficiency and capability. ACES is a great color tool for those who may be freelancing or for those who need to make quick color adjustments.

While ACES is a fantastic standalone color tool, it is not always necessary. Sometimes it is simpler to use an all-in-one type of program. The decision to use one color tool versus a program that contains a multitude of tools is a personal choice. Davinci Resolve is a plethora of software tools built into one.  It combines editing, color correction, visual effects, motion graphics, and audio post-production.

Similarly to ACES, Davinci Resolve has a free tier in addition to their paid tier. Some of the key color grading features in Davinci Resolve include the node editor, the gallery, the timeline, the color palette which consists of color wheels, and plenty more.

      Conclusion

Color grading is an extremely complex and nuanced portion of the post-production process. There are many aspects to color grading used to fit each project’s specific individual needs. We hope we have expanded your knowledge of what color grading is and why you should let us assist you in editing video color for your project!
